Shabbat Morning Youth Groups - We welcome all children under Bar/Bat Mitzvah to remain in the sanctuary or else participate in youth group programming.
Tots (ages 18M - 3 years): Babysitting available beginning at 9:15am in the Tots Room. Tot Shabbat will begin at 11:00am. Parent participation is encouraged for this family program, but babysitting will remain available and ongoing until the end of services.
Shabbat Club (Prek4-Kindergarten): 10:15am in the Chadar Tikvah. J-Minyan (1st - 5th grade): 10:15am in the Chapel.

Ohev Sholom Youth Floor Hockey **Please note that Shabbat is ending later so we are pushing back the Saturday night floor hockey to start at 6:45PM for Feb 3 & 10, and then a 7PM start for Feb 17, 24 & Mar 2. All weeks end at 8PM**.

Seeking Layners for Purim! I am seeking men and women to lain at the co-ed Megillah layning for men and women. The mixed reading will happen late Purim night (March 23).
I am also seeking women to layn for women at the Women's Tefillah layning on the late morning of Purim Day (March 24).

First meeting - Sunday, February 11 from 10am-11am This meeting is for all who are interested in both cast and crew. Ages 6 and up. Parents of younger children - please be at this meeting. We will sing through and distribute the script and go over the plan for rehearsals.
There will be two more full-cast Sunday rehearsals leading up to Purim on March 3 and 17 from 10am-12pm. (these times may change) Teens can both be in the play and help direct and produce!
BIG IDEA @ Ramah DC Ramah Day Camp has launched a BRAND NEW program for campers currently in 4th-7th grades. BIG IDEA @ Ramah is a partnership between the Israeli-based technology camp BIG IDEA and Ramah Day Camp Greater DC. For the past 15 years, BIG IDEA has been creating meaningful experiences for kids and teens, mixing technology, digital arts, Israel programs, and social bonding. BBYO For Teens: Passionate about mental health? Are you the friend others always turn to? Want to help your friends, but don’t know where to start? Join us as we spill the tea on mental health and get certified in Teen Mental Health First Aid! This is a 3-session, certification course for teens in grades 10 - 12, that teaches you how to recognize and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in your friends. For Youth Professionals, Parents, and Community Members: Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is designed to help adults in the lives of adolescents learn how to assist a youth who is experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. "Yad Yehuda of Greater Washington is a volunteer organization that serves as the Jewish community's financial safety net serving hundreds of individuals from every Jewish neighborhood in the Greater Washington area." Their programs include: Emergency Relief, Capital Kosher Pantry, Tomchei Shabbat, Gemach Exchange, Misaskim of Greater Washington, Chesed Shel Emes, and Nismach. The Kosher Pantry is very close by for those interested in volunteering. If you know someone in distress, please advise of these services. Bikur Holim of Greater Washington is the support organization for medical needs. Their services include finding kosher food in hospitals, equipment loans, transportation assistance, kosher home meal deliveries, social support, places to stay when in the area for medical care and Ben's Wellness, a fund that assists members of the greater Washington Jewish community with mental health bills. Sunday Night Series on Jewish Sexual Ethics with Rabbanit Sara Wolkenfeld: February 4th & 11th at 8pm. Women's Megillat Esther Layning Learning Group with Maharat Intern Kate Rozansky Over the last two years, as I’ve participated in and recruited women to layn Megillat Esther at Ohev, I’ve heard many people say: "I’d love to learn, but I don’t know how!"
This year, I’m creating a space for the women of Ohev to either learn to layn (part of) Megillat Esther and/or to expand their repertoire of what they already know. This group will be mostly asynchronous, with regular Whastapp checkins, but with some in-person meetups (including - if there is demand - one in late December to kickstart things!).
Like many communities, we rely on volunteers to help make Ohev such a vibrant shul. Please consider getting involved by joining (or helping to lead) one of our committees. Whether you have several hours a week or even a few hours a month, there is an opportunity for you to volunteer and help make a difference in our community. More info here!
