BIG IDEA @ Ramah DC
Ramah Day Camp has launched a BRAND NEW program for campers currently in 4th-7th grades. BIG IDEA @ Ramah is a partnership between the Israeli-based technology camp BIG IDEA and Ramah Day Camp Greater DC. For the past 15 years, BIG IDEA has been creating meaningful experiences for kids and teens, mixing technology, digital arts, Israel programs, and social bonding. For Teens: Passionate about mental health? Are you the friend others always turn to? Want to help your friends, but don’t know where to start? Join us as we spill the tea on mental health and get certified in Teen Mental Health First Aid! This is a 3-session, certification course for teens in grades 10 - 12, that teaches you how to recognize and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in your friends. Happening March 10, 17, and 31 from 1 – 3 pm at Adas Israel Congregation (make-up sessions available if needed). Click here to register and learn more.
For Youth Professionals, Parents, and Community Members: Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is designed to help adults in the lives of adolescents learn how to assist a youth who is experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Has two scholarship programs available for teens and youth in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia! - One Happy Camper: Celebrate Tu B’Shvat (Birthday of the Trees) this week by sending your community’s teens and youth to a place where they can get their hands dirty! - Israel Quest: We also are thrilled to share the launch of this year’s Israel Quest Grants for teen travel to Israel. Teens can receive up to $3,000 of tuition assistance for an upcoming peer Israel experience with their Youth Group, Study abroad program, and more. Now more than ever, it is vital that our teens visit and experience the land of Israel. - "Yad Yehuda of Greater Washington is a volunteer organization that serves as the Jewish community's financial safety net serving hundreds of individuals from every Jewish neighborhood in the Greater Washington area." Their programs include: Emergency Relief, Capital Kosher Pantry, Tomchei Shabbat, Gemach Exchange, Misaskim of Greater Washington, Chesed Shel Emes, and Nismach. The Kosher Pantry is very close by for those interested in volunteering. If you know someone in distress, please advise of these services. - Bikur Holim of Greater Washington is the support organization for medical needs. Their services include finding kosher food in hospitals, equipment loans, transportation assistance, kosher home meal deliveries, social support, places to stay when in the area for medical care and Ben's Wellness, a fund that assists members of the greater Washington Jewish community with mental health bills.
