Saturday, October 26, 4:55 PM - The Jewish Calendar Controversy of 922 CE (and 2024 CE?) For several years beginning in 922 CE, due to a small difference in how the calendar was calculated, the Jews in Babylonia and in the land of Israel observed all the holidays on different dates, 2 days apart. By the next time this rare situation came up, the calendar had been standardized and the controversy had been forgotten. And now this situation is about to arise again, for the first time in 180 years, beginning this December (on Rosh Chodesh Kislev)! We will look into the background of this calendar controversy.
Ben Dreyfus is a professor of physics at George Mason University, and on the side, runs the Hebrew Calendar Facts page on Facebook.
